Law - "Many encounter problems when trying to pay off private student loans early"
Michelle Singletary, financial columnist for The Washington Post, writes:
The student-loan ombudsman for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has just released a report analyzing complaints the watchdog agency has received from private student-loan borrowers.Reading through the column, the complaints sound very similar to those faced by people dealing with mortgage servicers. The column is a must-read if your are repaying student loans.
Not surprisingly, the chief gripe concerned payment issues. But it’s not what you might think. Many borrowers said they encountered problems trying to pay off their debt early.
